Our Charge and Responsibilities

The Distinguished Teaching Award Committee shall be responsible for the screening, investigation and recommendation of candidates to receive any campus-wide teaching awards including, but not limited to, the Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Thomas F. Herman Faculty Achievement Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Distinguished Teaching Awards Committee

Leadership Structure

  • Chair: Elected from the committee membership
  • Convener: Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
  • Staff: Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

Election Schedule for Chair: The committee [council] shall elect a chair(s) from among its voting members at the first possible meeting of a new majority, usually at the first meeting of fall term. In situations where the chair from the prior year is still a member of the committee, that person remains the chair until a new chair is elected.

Terms and Workload

Length of Term

  • Non-Students: 2 years, staggered
  • Students: 1 year

Term Limits

  • For the Chair: 1 year
  • For committee members: 2 consecutive terms

Workload Designation

  • For the Chair: 20 - 40 hours/year (Tier 2)
  • For committee members: 0 - 20 hours/year (Tier 3)
