Section I

1.1 WHEREAS, a number of rules issued by the State Board of Higher Education in the past (known as “580 Rules”) also involve discrimination matters that are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (including ones contained withinhttp://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20580%20-%20Division%2015.pdf) deserve a fresh look; and

1.2 WHEREAS, a571 Rule of the University of Oregon regarding discrimination matters, which are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (contained withinhttp://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20571%20-%20Division%203.pdf) also deserves a fresh look; and

1.3 WHEREAS, linkages and comments are provided on the Senate’s “Master List” of rules and policies, including unique, easy-to-track identifying numbers (see Policies of Senate Interest Excel workbook),

Section II

2.1 BE IT HEREBY MOVED that the Senate President refer Discrimination Policies to the Senate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee to review Policies 228-256, 348,and such others as may be relevant, and to recommend changes as appropriate.

2.2 BE IT FURTHER MOVED that the Senate President refer Policy 35 (UO Policy 571-003-0025) to the same committee for consideration of a plan for possible changes, as appropriate, by March 11, 2015, and for action by April 29, 2015, in collaboration with the Workgroup on Grievance and Appeal Policies.
