1.1 WHEREAS, various rules of the University of Oregon regarding employment matters, which are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (contained withinhttp://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20571%20-%20Division%204.pdf) deserve a fresh look; and

1.2 WHEREAS, a number of rules issued by the State Board of Higher Education in the past (known as “580 Rules”) also involve employment matters that are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (including ones contained withinhttp://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20580%20-%20Division%2022.pdf, http://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20580%20-%20Division%2020.pdf, http://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20580%20-%20Division%2021.pdf, http://policies.uoregon.edu/sites/policies.uoregon.edu/files/uploads/OAR%20580%20-%20Division%2043.pdf) also deserve a fresh look; and

1.3 WHEREAS, a number of policy directives issued by the State Board of Higher Education in the past (known as “Internal Management Directives”) involve employment matters that are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (including several found at http://ous.edu/files/about/polipro/files/IMD_2013-01.pdf) also deserve a fresh look; and

1.4 WHEREAS various unnumbered State Board of Higher Educationinvolve employment matters that are academic matters as commonly understood in higher education (including several found at http://www.ous.edu./files/state_board/polipro/files/BdPol111025.pdf) also deserve a fresh look; and

1.5 WHEREAS, linkages and comments are provided on the Senate’s “Master List” of rules and policies, including unique, easy-to-track identifying numbers (see Policies of Senate Interest Excel workbook),

2.1 BE IT HEREBY MOVED that the Senate President appoint a Senate Workgroup on Employment Matters, with participation by faculty, other constituencies, and members of the University Administration (Ron Bramhall or designee), to review Policies 42-44, 349, 259-261, 263, 268-291, 293-302, 398-401, 494, 637, 639-645, 659-669,and such others as may be relevant, and to recommend changes as appropriate.
