Section I

1.1 Whereas, the Interim University President made various recommendations and requests to the Senate on May 1-6 in response to legislation recently passed by the University Senate; and

1.2 Whereas the University of Oregon Constitution specifies that the University President and Senate should engage in negotiations in order to create “mutually satisfactory” legislation or policy proposals (as the case may be) “within 60 days” from the date of the University President’s response to a motion; and

1.3 Whereas no 60-day period remains during the 2014-2105 Academic Year for President-Senate negotiations; and

1.4 Whereas the available negotiating time before June 15 is only approximately 41-46 days for those Senators who are student members and those Senators who are faculty members on 9-month appointments; and

1.5 Whereas, commencing negotiations on September 16, 2015, with the new President, for a maximum of 60 days, would be within the spirit of the 60-day period stated in the Constitution;

Section II

2.1 BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Senate expresses its gratitude for Interim President Coltrane’s timely responses to Senate motions throughout the 2014-2015 academic year; and

2.2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate looks forward to fruitful discussions with the incoming University President during the first two months of the 2015-2016 Academic Year, in order to reach “mutually satisfactory” agreement regarding the Senate motions for which responses have been posted on the President’s website.
