Section I

1.1 WHEREAS, provisions for academic classification and rank have been negotiated between the University and United Academics of the University of Oregon (UAUO) and said provisions are articulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); and

1.2 WHEREAS, as a result, the current University policy that defines and regulates academic classification and rank has been superseded by the CBA for those members of the faculty who are also in the UAUO bargaining unit; and

1.3 WHEREAS, administering two separate substantially different policies affecting academic classification and rank, one for represented faculty and another for unrepresented faculty, would place an undue administrative burden on the University administration and could result in confusion among administrators and faculty; and

1.4 WHEREAS, revising the current University policy, namely 580.020.0005 Academic Classification and Rank, to bring it into closer agreement with the provisions of the CBA would help to ameliorate these difficulties; and

1.5 WHEREAS, the Senate Employment Policy Working Group and the Senate Executive Committee have reviewed and approved of the attached revisions,

Section II

2.2 THEREFORE, the University Senate approves of the revision of policy 580.020.0005 Academic Classification and Rank as specified in the attached document.
