Motion

Section I

1.1  WHEREAS the University of Oregon does not currently offer graduate microcredentials; and

1.2 WHEREAS faculty from several academic programs have requested that the Division of Graduate Studies propose a credential that is fewer credits than a certificate or degree; and

1.3 WHEREAS the Graduate Council has the responsibility to “review and vote to approve new graduate programs, revisions to degree requirements for existing graduate programs, and other changes to existing graduate programs, while ensuring highest standards for graduate education;” and

1.4 WHEREAS the Graduate Council voted to approve a new type of standalone graduate credential titled “Graduate Microcredential” that requires at least 3 graduate courses totaling a minimum of 12 credits.

Section II

2.1 THEREFORE BE IT MOVED, on the recommendation of the Graduate Council, that the University Senate approves the creation of a new type of standalone graduate credential titled “Graduate Microcredential” as outlined in the Related Documents.
