Motion

Section I

1.1  WHEREAS faculty at the University of Oregon have expressed growing dissatisfaction with their working conditions, citing stagnant compensation and increasing workloads; and

1.2  WHEREAS rising housing costs and living expenses have created significant stress for faculty; and

1.3  WHEREAS faculty salaries at the University of Oregon have not kept pace with inflation, exacerbating financial challenges; and

1.4  WHEREAS the University of Oregon’s ability to recruit and retain high-quality faculty is essential to its success, and competitive compensation equivalent to our AAU public comparator universities is critical to this effort; and

1.5  WHEREAS a supportive environment that values faculty contributions enable them to more effectively fulfill the university’s academic mission, which is the core work of the University Senate; and

1.6  WHEREAS a timely resolution to negotiations will allow the University Senate to focus on advancing the University’s academic goals and Oregon Rising initiatives;

Section II

2.1  BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the University Senate affirms its commitment to recognizing the contributions of faculty in driving the university’s academic excellence; and

2.2  BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the University Senate believes fair and competitive compensation is essential to attracting, retaining, and sustaining distinguished faculty committed to high standards in research, teaching, and service; and

2.3  BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the University Senate advocates for prompt negotiations and fair resolutions between the university administration and United Academics to avoid disruptions to the academic mission and ensure stability for students, faculty, and the broader university community.
