Section I

1.1 WHEREAS the University of Oregon is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community where every individual can grow, thrive, and contribute to the university’s mission through well-being, resilience, trust, belonging, meaningful connections, and a shared sense of purpose (Oregon Rising); and

1.2 WHEREAS the current national political climate has created widespread personal and professional uncertainty, affecting all members of the University of Oregon community and challenging our ability to fully uphold and advance the university’s academic mission; and

1.3 WHEREAS the University Senate, as a democratic body composed of elected representatives from across campus, plays a vital role in shared governance and is dedicated to advocating for the needs and well-being of the university community; and 

1.4 WHEREAS the University Senate is committed to proactively supporting faculty, staff, and students by promoting policies, securing resources, and taking actions that reinforce the university’s academic mission and core values, particularly in times of uncertainty. 

Section II

2.1 BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the University Senate stands by the Senate motion passed on November 15, 2016, titled, “Declaring UO a Sanctuary Campus” which promotes the privacy, safety and security of all members of the university community as required by state and federal law; and

2.2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University Senate will collaborate with campus partners to take deliberate action in upholding the principles of safety, dignity, and inclusion for all members of our community; and

2.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University Senate recognizes that these principles are essential to the university’s academic mission, ensuring that all members of our community can fully engage in academic, intellectual, and personal growth.
