Academic Council

The Academic Council was established by the Statutory Faculty Assembly at its May 19, 2010 meeting as part of the New Governance Constitution that was approved and adopted at that meeting. The role of the Academic Council is to discuss and review academic issues and present recommendations for action to the University Senate.

Academic Requirements Committee

Responsible for the administration and interpretation of academic requirements for undergraduate degrees, and for action on student petitions for exceptions to requirements and to other academic regulations.

Career Faculty Committee

Focuses on addressing the issues of career instructional and research faculty at the UO.

Committee on Courses

The Committee on Courses shall be responsible for the University's Curriculum.

Committee on Oversight and Shared Governance

Oversees the committee structure within the system of shared governance.

Committee on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

The Committee on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence addresses the widespread problems of sexual and gender-based violence within our community.

Continuous Improvement and Evaluation of Teaching Committee

The committee collects feedback on the Continuous Improvement and Evaluation of Teaching System (CIETS), makes minor changes to the instruments based on stakeholder feedback, and advises the Senate on significant changes as needed.

Core Education Council

The Core Education Council shall oversee that part of the University curriculum which is required of all undergraduate students. Currently that includes but is not limited to: areas of inquiry; cultural literacy requirement; writing requirement; requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree; and requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree.

Distinguished Teaching Awards Committee

Solicits nomination and selects recipients of Ersted Award, Faculty Achievement Award, and other university-wide awards for distinguished teaching.

Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Committee

Advises the Office of Equity and Inclusion in areas of its work, particularly regarding the development of policies and programs as well as processes for enhancing and institutionalizing equity, inclusion and diversity in hiring practices, academic curriculum, tenure and promotion process and retention strategies for faculty and students.
